Nighttime Skin Care Routine

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

I've been really trying to commit to a good skin care routine at night. My skin has been breaking out over the last few months so I've been trying to find products that work well for me. Here's what I've been using lately:

What skin care products do you use at night?

Everyone's got dry, flaky lips right about now and I've been obsessed with collecting lip balms to solve that problem. Cheapie and high end -- the variations are endless.

6 Things to Do When You're Stuck Inside in the Winter

Monday, January 26, 2015

We're gearing up for a big winter storm here in New England and as a result, we may be stuck inside for a few days. Besides working at home, most people will have a good amount of time on their hands if they decide not to brave the elements or risk driving on the roads. So here are some ideas of what to do with that extra time:

Binge watch TV shows: This is a great time to start a new show or catch up on one you've missed. I just finished The Affair, which was really good and it's only 10 episodes so not too much to tackle. I also recommend Homeland, Friday Night Lights, Orange is the New Black and Scandal.

Clean out your closet/consign some stuff: If you haven't worn it in a year, then either give it to Goodwill or Second Time Around (or other consignment shops) if it's still in good condition. We all have stuff we don't need or want anymore.

Try a new recipe: Get out that crockpot and use ingredients you have laying around the kitchen. We're planning to make a version of this soup this week.

Clean your makeup brushes: It's something we all should do more but can never seem to find the time. Follow the easy steps here. (Btw, the Real Techniques brushes are great and super affordable.)

Read a book: I'm almost done with You Should Have Known and I'm planning to read The Language of Flowers next. Nothing better than getting lost in a good book.

Online shopping: Sign up for Ebates or Amazon Prime and search for good deals. There are also a lot of good sales going on right now such as...

JCrew: 25% off select full price items and 50% off sale items

Loft: 40% off everything

Ann Taylor: 40% off almost everything

Piperlime: 25% off full price items

Stay warm!

Cold Weather Essentials

Thursday, January 22, 2015

Chapped Hands Remedy lotion - Anyone in a cold climate will get really dry hands by the middle of winter -- make sure you have some legit hand cream on hand. (No pun intended!)

Turkey Chili - A collection of cold weather recipes is a must during the winter -- turkey chili is at the top of my list.

Kiehl's lip balm - Just discovered this lip balm! It's hydrating but not too thick.

Lululemon hoodie - A good quality hoodie is something I live in during cold days and nights.

Fur Circle Scarf - Same goes for a cozy circle scarf!

Fragrant Candle - I love having a candle lit in the house every night.

Cozy Blanket - Snuggle up under a cozy blanket while you binge watch your favorite TV shows.

Stay warm everyone!

Weekly Wish List

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

Sugar lip treatment - I've heard good things about the lip balm and was curious about the lip gloss as well!

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate - I have a sample size of this and it's amazing to use at night. Plus it smells like peppermint!

Patagonia fleece - I have a Nordstrom gift card and am considering buying this cozy fleece that I've wanted forever!

North Face Hat - This hat looks super warm and I love the bright pink color.

Rag & Bone skinny jeans - Everyone says these are the best jeans. I really want to try a pair!

Ugg boots - Don't make fun of me...I really want a pair of Uggs again.

Clinique face cream - I had a sample of another Clinique face cream and really liked it. I'm wondering how this gel-creme would work.

Packing for a Ski Trip + Happy Long Weekend!

Friday, January 16, 2015

Happy long weekend everybody! I'm headed to Killington, VT with a group of friends this weekend. I won't actually be skiing but some people will be. I'm planning to hang out in our cabin, binge watch some TV shows, read and explore the town. We are also planning some Cards Against Humanity, a watch party for the Pats game and a night at the Pickle Barrel bar.

Here are some ideas of what to pack for a ski/lodge weekend:

A really warm hat -- love this one from North Face.

A cozy sweater. BB Dakota has some great options.

A solid pair of boots for the messy slush and snow. These Ugg boots are waterproof and stylish.

A thick circle scarf always keeps you warm, indoors and outdoors. Nordstrom has a lot to choose from.

Lastly, a substantial pair of slippers are a must-have! LL Bean carries the classic styles.

Teavana infuser mug: I use this with the set of holiday tea my bf gave me for Chrismukkah. It makes it super easy to brew the tea in one step.

You Should Have Known: One of the best page turners I've read since Gone Girl. It's about a psychologist that discovers a secret about her husband.

BB Dakota sweater: Another great gift from my bf! Such a warm and cozy sweater.

Bath & Body Works candle: I picked this up at the B&BW sale and it smells amazing and is so fragrant!

The Body Shop lip butter: This stuff smells like the beach, which is nice during these freezing cold days.

The Affair tv show: Just started watching this the other night and already addicted! It's mostly about an affair but about all the people connected to the two main characters during a summer in Montauk.

Happy Thursday!

New Beauty Items

Bare Minerals Main Attraction holiday set (sold out sadly!): I got this as a Hanukkah gift from my parents and was so pleasantly surprised. It wasn't one of the holiday sets I had seen at any of the stores so I was pretty pumped to get it. It includes a few products I've already tried and some that were new to me. It includes an eyeshadow duo, a full size blush, a full size Marvelous Moxie lip gloss, a mini brush, a mini Marvelous Moxie lipstick, a Lash Domination full size mascara and a  black Lasting Line eyeliner. My favorites so far are the mascara, blush and eyeshadow. I was amazed that only a tiny bit of the blush goes such a long way and warms up the cheeks so nicely. The mascara makes some of the longest lashes I've ever had -- and don't fear the brush, it may look crazy but works surprisingly well. I've actually only used the gold eyeshadow so far but I'm obsessed, it's really pigmented and works well for me as an everyday shade.

Stila In the Moment Palette (on sale!): I got this on sale at Ulta since I think it's being discontinued. I fell in love with the colors and so far have had good luck with Stila eyeshadows. I do like this one so far but I think I need to use an eyeshadow primer of some kind with it.

Buxom products: Full-On Lip Stick, Full On Lip Creams, Show Some Skin Foundation: I've actually had a few Buxom products in the past, such as the lip gloss. The lipstick and lip creams are amazing, they make your lips tingle and last a really long time. I've been loving the combo of Marrakech lipstick and White Russian lip cream lately -- it's a great nude color that I didn't think I would love so much. I also love the foundation, it's super light and blends really nicely. It's definitely pretty light coverage but that's usually what I go for.

What are some of your current favorite beauty products?
