The Warmest Winter Coats at Wellensteyn

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

Although it hasn't been cold yet in New England, we all know it's coming. Having a really warm winter coat is essential to get you through the winter months filled with snow, freezing rain, slush, wind and bitter cold.

Wellensteyn, a German outerwear brand, just opened its first two stores in the United States, one of which is at the Wrentham Outlets in Wrentham, Mass. I was really excited when the company invited me and a friend to come visit the store and try on their huge collection of winter coats, jackets and vests.

Their coats are super warm, waterproof and wind resistant, perfect for the New England winter conditions. My favorites were the long coats with fur lined hoods and high collars. There were also some really cute short puffer coats, vests and jackets for slightly warmer weather. Overall, they had tons of styles in different lengths, fabrics and colors.

I think the best part about these coats is that knowing you will be really warm and comfortable when you wear them. I have no doubt that I'll be wearing mine a ton this winter. I ended up getting the Stavanger coat in black.

Thank you again to Wellensteyn for hosting us at your new Wrentham store!

Current Makeup Routine

Monday, December 14, 2015

I haven't done an updated makeup routine post in a long time and I've been watching a lot of YouTube tutorials lately so it's the perfect time to fill you in on the makeup I've been wearing on a daily basis. I've gotten a few new makeup products recently and have integrated those into my routine so this includes some new items and some longtime favorites -- and both include some drugstore and some more pricey brands. What are some of your current favorite makeup products?

Dry Skin Essentials

Saturday, December 5, 2015

During the last few weeks, I've really felt my skin starting to dry out because of the cold weather and the heat being on indoors. Every year there are a few holy grail products I turn to to keep my skin hydrated as much as possible. The best part is, most of these products are pretty affordable so no need to worry about using them sparingly!

What do you use to keep your skin hydrated during the winter?

On My Bookshelf

Wednesday, December 2, 2015

After You by Jojo Moyes: This is the long awaited sequel of Me Before You and I can't wait to read it and see what Louisa is up to!

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid: Currently reading this and really liking it so far. It's a "Sliding Doors" story about a girl who moves back to her hometown of LA and makes an important choice. The story plays out each scenario of her decision.

Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff: This book has been getting a lot of buzz and since I liked Gone Girl, One Day and other love/relationship stories, this one sounds like it has potential. It's about a marriage between two people that goes awry and as a result, secrets about each person are revealed.

Room by Emma Donoghue: My mom saw the movie and then recommended the book to me. It's the story of a mother imprisoned in a single room and how she survives and raises a son.

What books are you currently reading and what is on your list? Share in the comments below, I always love getting new recommendations!

Early Stocking Wish List

Monday, November 16, 2015

Similar to the last few years, I’m hoping to give and get some great makeup, jewelry and skincare items as well as a few new tech items that have been on my list for a while. I’ve heard great things about the Bobbi Brown stick foundation and am very curious to see if it’s an easier solution for foundation. For dry skin in the winter, I’m interested in the daytime oil from Kiehl’s. I love the nighttime version of this product so I’m sure the daytime one will work wonders as well. As far as jewelry goes, Kendra Scott items are always nice since they are great quality and go with everything. I also love the Greek style of this Baublebar necklace. The Flowerbomb perfume from Viktor and Rolf is a favorite, I just can’t get enough of the scent. Lastly, it would be nice to have some good quality Bose headphones or a stylish wearable device like the Tory Burch Fitbit.

Happy holiday shopping!

Weekly Wish List

Friday, October 30, 2015

Sharing my wish list for this Halloween weekend! I've been on a shopping kick lately, finding so many good things and some pretty good deals! Here are some things on my longer term wish list -- except I might pick up that Loft sweater vest since it's on sale -- Loft literally always has such great markdowns, you can't beat it.

Happy weekend!

New Job, New Wardrobe

Monday, October 26, 2015

I just recently started a new job a few weeks ago and I used it as an excuse to freshen up my wardrobe for both work and play. I scored some great items on sale and stocked up on a few basics. I also took advantage of the price matching at Nordstrom and ordered some new skincare items while I was at it. Here's what I got!

Vineyard Vines is still having the extra 30% off sale items through tomorrow and right now the Nordstrom price matching is still going on as well as 40% off sale items at JCrew. Get some stuff while you can!

Fall TV Watch List

Sunday, September 27, 2015

Fall TV is finally back! I've waited all summer to get into some new shows and to get back to some of my favorite shows over the last few years. Here's what I'll be watching:

New shows:

Quantico: This is about the FBI training center called Quantico. The premise seems to be about how one of the recruits is actually a terrorist but nobody knows who it is. Looks really intriguing.

Blood & Oil: This show is about two young people who move up north to work in the oil business and all of the business issues and politics that come up. I'm excited to see Chace Crawford back on TV!

Scream Queens: I made it through the 2-hour premiere last week and I have to say I will probably be watching again. The show is similar to PLL but a bit more satirical and kooky. Great cast, wardrobe and one-liners.

Returning shows:

Homeland: Homeland is finally back! The hiatus between season is so long that I've forgotten what's supposed to happen this season, but I still can't wait!

How to Get Away With Murder: The season premiere did not disappoint. We already found out who Rebecca's killer was and new plot lines have been set in motion.

Scandal: I'm really hoping this season is good and so far I'm into it. Olivia and Fitz are together, Cyrus is out of the White House, Huck is still in a really bad place and the gladiators are back to solving cases.

Happy Monday! (Is it ever though?)

(similar to the multicolored pictured above)

Here are a few recent favorites from the last few weeks. I did some shopping down in Kiawah and got these awesome Lilly leggings that look like black work pants but are so comfortable. I also picked up a multicolored oxford popover at Vineyard Vines which is also a great item for work. My sister got me the Lilly koozie which I used almost all of vacation. When I got back I got the cult classic Nars Chelsea Girls lip gloss and a sample of the Hourglass primer at Sephora, which I am excited to try.

Kiawah Island & Charleston Vacation Recap

Monday, September 14, 2015

Just got back from an awesome vacation in Kiawah Island and Charleston, South Carolina! Thank you everyone for the suggestions on things to do and places to go! Here is a quick recap of everything we did last week:

-Walks on the beach in Kiawah every morning
-Swimming and lounging at Night Heron pool at Kiawah
-Cooking meals and hanging out at our house on Turtle Point
-Bike riding around the island
-Dinner at High Cotton, Fish and Magnolia's in Charleston (plus ice cream at Jeni's!)
-Shopping at Freshfields Market
-Walking around King Street
-Checking out Rainbow Row

Now that we've been back to Kiawah after so many years, I don't think it'll be that long before we go again! It's the perfect beach vacation, with plenty of activities to do and lots of cool things to see in the city. The week flew by too fast!

Charleston & Kiawah Island Recommendations?

Monday, August 31, 2015

My family, along with all of our significant others, is going to Charleston, South Carolina this weekend for vacation and I can't wait! We are actually going to be in Kiawah Island, which is about half an hour from the city of Charleston. We used to vacation there every summer when I was younger and we are going back for the first time in a long time.

We rented a house on the island which is part of the resort so we'll have access to the pool, beach, spa, gym and tennis courts. We're also planning to go into Charleston to shop, have dinner and take a few tours.

Does anyone have any recommendations of places to eat, visit, shop or experience in Charleston or Kiawah Island? Like I said, we've been many times but it's been years since we've been back so we don't really know the popular areas or new places.

Thanks!

Early Fall Wish List & Recent Favorites

Monday, August 24, 2015

At this point in the summer, I'm definitely over the heat and humidity and ready to start scouting out fall clothes. I already know I need a new pair of ankle boots but I'd love to find a cheaper alternative to these Tory Burch ones. As for tops, I'm a big fan of plaid button-ups and Target has some great ones as well as Madewell. And for another season this year, I love the layered sweaters, like this one from Ann Taylor.

Also sharing some other random favorites: I've finally started a few new shows including The Following, a suspense thriller-type show with Kevin Bacon, who plays a former FBI agent that's chasing a serial killer and his "followers," and the Wet Hot American Summer TV show on Netflix, a hilarious, kooky show about a summer camp, based on the movie. I also cannot stop drinking La Croix seltzers! I'm pretty much obsessed with all the flavors. How can these be so good but have no sugar or calories?!

Boots mascara (found at Target)

Marc Jacobs lip gloss ('heart shaped' color found at TJ Maxx)

Loft long cardigan (on sale!)

Sharing a few favorites this week, almost all of which I got on sale! I found the Marc Jacobs lip gloss at TJ Maxx for $10 and Marshall's had a few too, along with some Nars items, so check your local stores! Luckiest Girl Alive is sadly the only book I've read so far this summer, I need to get on my summer reading list already! It's a good read though, I definitely recommend it. Loft has some great stuff on sale right now (don't they always), like this chunky beaded necklace and long cardigan. The Benefit cheeky spot box o blushes is still available on their site. It was a holiday item and was on sale for a bit but isn't anymore, but it's still a great deal for six blushes, a highlighter and a mini brush. Lastly, I had never tried any of the Boots cosmetics at Target and I'm in love with this extreme length mascara, it's amazing quality!

Brow Products: A Whole New World

Monday, July 13, 2015

I never realized how important brows were to an entire look until recently! I've been watching a lot of beauty tutorials on YouTube and they have opened my eyes to the world of brows. I do a very simple brow routine with just the Anastasia Brow Wiz to fill in the middle of my brows, but there are tons of products out there for all your brow needs. Here are some of the best ones I've heard about.

3 Multi-Purpose Makeup Products

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

I love buying beauty products and discovering new ways to do my makeup. But not all products are necessary to have in your makeup bag for a complete look. You can just as easily use classic products you already have, instead of falling for a brand's marketing ploy. Here are 3 great multi-purpose makeup products:

1. Concealer as eye primer: It's not really necessary to buy a special eyeshadow primer, you can just use any concealer or eyeshadow base. Combine that with a long wearing eyeshadow and you'll be good to go.

2. Bronzer/highlight or blush/highlight duo: No need to buy two different products, especially in the summertime. Get a combined product that has two different sides or a swirl of colors. I always prefer mine with shimmer.

3. Tinted lip balm: Multiple layers of lip products is not always necessary. On lighter makeup days, go for a tinted lip balm or lip butter that provides color but isn't labor intensive or heavy duty.

What are your favorite multi-purpose makeup products?

The Best Makeup for Photos and Video

Thursday, June 11, 2015

Giorgio Armani foundation -- I know it's pricey, but it's truly amazing. It really makes your skin glow and has a really nice finish. It's medium coverage but seems pretty build able, so if you are going to a special event like a wedding, put a little bit more on. Before you buy though, go to the makeup counter to get color matched because I think the color numbers are a bit tricky.

Makeup Forever HD foundation -- This is a good, slightly cheaper alternative to the Armani foundation.

Nars liquid eyeliner -- Any brand of liquid eyeliner will work but it will really make your eyes stand out and won't bleed or smear.

YSL glossy stain -- Another pricey one, but this one is worth it as well in my opinion. The color does stay for a solid few hours and you don't have to touch up which is nice if you are at an event like a wedding.

Smashbox Photo Finish primer -- If you have it, use a primer that's meant for photos and videos. I'm not sure it makes a huge difference, but it's worth doing just in case.

Bobbi Brown blush -- A classic blush to warm up your cheeks is all you need if you're wearing a high definition foundation. This is one of my faves.

Too Faced Natural Eyes palette -- I don't actually own this palette but have been wanting it for a while. I definitely recommend leaning towards a neutral eye for events where you'll be in photos or videos. Any palette will do, but steer away from bold colors or crazy combinations.

What makeup do you recommend for photos and video?

Weekend Recap

Monday, June 8, 2015

This past weekend was my best friend's wedding in upstate NY. It was a beautiful weekend and I couldn't be happier for her and her new hubby! I've been posting over the last few months about outfits to wear to wedding showers, rehearsal dinners and hairstyles and makeup to wear for the big day. After lots of searching on Pinterest and many shopping trips, here's how everything turned out!

Weeknight Dinner Ideas + Blue Apron

Wednesday, June 3, 2015

My boyfriend and I signed up for Blue Apron recently and I'll admit that I was a bit reluctant to try it. I thought it could be overpriced and unnecessary but it has proven to be so helpful, easy and delicious. We usually order twice a month and it's $60 per week for 3 meals for 2 people. Between the miscellaneous groceries, take out and dinners out, it ends up being a perfect amount for us to order. The recipes are super easy to cook, really healthy and definitely different than what I would've tried to cook on my own.

Before this I hardly ever cooked, mostly because I didn't have the patience and had some bad experiences...but the recipe cards are easy to follow and it's basically idiot proof. Here are some of the meals I've cooked:

Blue Apron did not sponsor this post, I just legitimately like the service and recommend it!
