Day Trip to Newport, RI

Monday, June 30, 2014

If you live in New England and have time for a day trip this summer, I definitely recommend Newport, Rhode Island. It's about an hour and a half from Boston and this weekend, it was about 10 degrees cooler and breezy. There are tons of things to do: restaurants, shops, tours and beaches. Here's what I suggest to any future visitors:

The Landing/The Lobster Bar: great lobster rolls and drinks, right on the water

The Cookie Jar: cookies, pastries, coffee and breakfast sandwiches, it smells so good in there!

Cliff Walk: amazing views and a nice breezy walk, you can also see The Breakers mansion without paying for the tour :)

Pink Pineapple shop: tons of trendy statement jewelry and cute clothes

There's so much to do we couldn't possibly get to it all in one day so next time I'll post more suggestions. Please also share anything I should check out when I go there again!

Friday Reads

Friday, June 27, 2014

I haven't shared Friday links in a while but I figured I'd get back in the habit since I found a bunch of great posts this week. This is the first weekend in a while that I have no plans...and it's glorious! I've been so busy lately it will be nice to just relax at home with no agenda.

1. This watermelon margarita (pic above) looks so delicious and refreshing.

2. Tory Burch picks her favorite looks in Vanity Fair.

3. Anyone else an Olivia Pope fan? Well now we'll be able to buy her wardrobe!

4. I can't wait for the next Hunger Games movie to come out later this year (Mockingjay Part 1). Here's the first look.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Summer Wedding Attire

Summer Wedding Attire

I've been outfit planning for a few weddings this summer and all I can keep picturing is a bold red dress. You can't go wrong with red, it's not too dressy or too casual and it stands out from all the LBDs. I'd love to pair it with nude heels and a bunch of gold accessories for a classic look I can wear again and again.

Happy wedding season!

Summer Reading List

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn -- Currently reading this book. It's another creepy murder mystery by the author of Gone Girl.

Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple -- Funny, quirky page-turner about a mom who goes crazy (and eventually goes missing) while planning a family trip to Antarctica. The book doesn't have any actual chapters, it's structured by emails, notes and other correspondence that Bernadette's daughter pieces together in hopes of locating her.

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt -- On my summer reading list!

What books are you enjoying this summer?

Gemstones Jewelry

Gem Stones Jewelry

I've been loving the natural gem stones look lately. A colorful gem pendant has been one of the items on my wish list for a while now and recently I found out about a few Etsy shops (like Dolce Ave and Jewelsalem featured above) and a new designer called Chicks and Stones, which makes custom jewelry. Shout out to Casey from Sense & Sequins for letting me know about Chicks and Stones' gorgeous collection!

Patterned Shorts

Patterned Shorts

A pair of patterned shorts is high on my wish list right now. I'd love to wear a pair with a solid, bright colored tank or mix it up with a striped tee.

Creating a Stylish Vanity with One Kings Lane

One Kings Lane

Living in a small apartment, I don't have a very big vanity space and use a lot of it for random items instead of nice, decorative pieces. In my future home, I'd love to have a beautiful vanity that can be functional and stylish. One Kings Lane let me know about their selection of mirrors, which can be used as the centerpiece to a new vanity space. I picked out some accompanying items -- a lamp, tray, picture frame, jewelry box and candles -- that I'd love to use for a future space.

One Kings Lane also has some great suggestions on how to use mirrors in your interior design

How would you use a mirror to spruce up a space?

Vacation in Florida

Monday, June 16, 2014

I can't believe today is already our last day in Delray Beach! Time really flies when you're on vacation. We've had a great time going to the beach, cruising on the intercostal, visiting the mini-aquarium and trying lots of great restaurants. Today we'll probably do some shopping, take one last swim at the beach and then go to this new Mexican restaurant for $3 margaritas.
