I wanted to wish everyone a happy holidays and happy new year! I'm headed down to Florida on Wednesday to spend time with my bf's family and enjoy the warm weather. Looking forward to the time off from work, lots of big meals and seeing the Sooners play at the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando! Go OU!

Holiday Candles

Thursday, December 4, 2014

One of my favorite things about the winter and the holidays is burning festive candles. I look forward to buying the holiday scents all year and I always ask for a candle for Chrismukkah or my birthday. A lot of times I find great ones at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Home Goods or Target, but lots of stores carry candles during the holiday season so there are tons of options of where to find them.

What are your favorite holiday candle scents?

1. Clinique rinse off foaming cleanser: A lot of facial cleansers say they are foaming...this one actually really is! It's super foamy and you only need to use a tiny bit. Definitely worth the $20 price tag.

2. Clarins instant lip perfector: I learned about this lip gloss/balm hybrid from Essie Button on YouTube. This is such a great everyday product, it's super easy to put on and feels really smooth and not sticky. (Available for less on Amazon.)

3. Double sided pearl earrings: I wanted the look that tons of bloggers are rocking but didn't want to overpay for something that could be trendy. I found these on sale at Leopard and Latte

4. Gap cable knit sweater: I've been wearing this non-stop since it's been cold out. I love wearing it with a blouse layered underneath for that 2-in-1 look.

Happy hump day!

Holiday Entertaining: The Ultimate Cheese Plate

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

A cheese plate is probably one of the easiest appetizers to make and is always a crowd pleaser. My friends and I had a wine and cheese party before Thanksgiving and decided to go beyond just the wine and cheese. We put together (see picture above) a complete cheese and charcuterie appetizer spread. So it wasn't on one of those fancy chalkboard or wooden cutting boards...but we had all the fixings and it was so delicious.

Suggestions for the ultimate cheese plate:

-- Cheeses of different textures: soft, crumbly, dense, warm, creamy

I picked up a variety from Wegmans (see below): gouda, gruyere and goat cheese. We also had warm brie with jam, regular brie, blue cheese, cheddar and camembert.

-- The vehicles: crusty bread, crackers, etc.

-- Salty snacks: nuts, salami, prosciutto, olives, etc.

-- Sweet stuff: raspberries, dried apricots, pomegranate seeds, honey, jam, grapes, etc.

Here are some other ideas for what to include and how to lay out your cheese board:

What are your favorite things to include on a cheese board?

Recent Lip Product Favorites

Monday, November 24, 2014

Clarins Instant Lip Perfector - I just ordered this from Amazon (in rose shimmer) and am so excited to get it in the mail. I tried it on at Bloomingdale's and it's just an amazing balm/gloss hybrid.

Loreal Colour Rich Balm - I randomly picked this up at Wegman's the other day (in pink satin) and am very impressed with the quality. Just FYI, it really is a balm not a lipstick, but it's super moisturizing and gives a little bit of shine.

Vaseline Creme Brûlée - This is your regular old Vaseline but with a sweet creme brûlée scent. It's great! The jar is super cute too.

Clinique Almost Lipstick - So I don't think this is available in any colors except for black honey (which is a beautiful shade) anymore. I have it in shy honey and still love using it even though I bought it a really long time ago. It's a very light pink color and feels like a moisturizing lipstick/balm.

Clinique Chubby Stick - I got this in the Nordstrom Clinique free gift and I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I like it. I got the mega melon color and it's different than anything I have. It's a hint of red that I really like.

Mac Mineralize Glass - I bought this over the summer in the modern romance color and it's a perfect bold pink shiny gloss. The applicator is a mini sponge, which I love.

NYX Butter Gloss - I have this in several shades but I've been reaching for the eclair color a lot lately. It's a lilac pinky color that really works for my pale skin tone.

What to Wear for Thanksgiving

Friday, November 21, 2014

My family usually has Thanksgiving at our house and the only guests are everyone's significant others. As a result, we usually all dress more on the casual side. This year I'm thinking about wearing a version of the outfit above: a cozy sweater with some nice jeans and cute jewelry.

Happy early Thanksgiving!

One Direction Makeup Collection Review & Giveaway

Thursday, November 20, 2014

Confession, I don't actually listen to One Direction but when I saw their makeup collection on BrandBacker it seemed really fun and cute. I was sent three packages: the lip gloss set, mascara set and nail set.

Liquilights Glow Gloss: The lip gloss set might be my favorite. It comes with a nude peach color, a hot pink and a berry red.  They kind of remind me of the Revlon ColorBurst glosses, which are colorful and sparkly. They are pretty good quality, not too sticky and good pigmentation, and have cute packaging, with the little brick pattern on the top, along with a doe-foot applicator. I could see myself using these for a night out or for New Year's Eve, however it says they light up in the dark, which could be kind of weird.

Electro Glam Mascara: Next, I got the mascara set, which came with a blue, pink and yellow mascara. The package says you can use it for hair or eyelashes -- too bad Halloween is over!

I've only used blue mascara in the past and I don't really see myself branching out into other colors. However, more adventurous girls might really like these. They have a smooth formula and nice, bright pigmentation, but you have to be gentle with them so you don't get clumps of color on your lashes.

Rock Me Nail Kit: Lastly, the nail polish set. I could really see anyone using these nail polishes and glitters. Any nail color can fly these days so these would be really cute with a lot of different looks. Each color comes with a matching loose glitter, which you could dip your brush into or sprinkle over each nail. I've never really seen this kind of thing before and I think it's a cool idea. These also light up in the dark, which is kind of cool. It wouldn't bother me at all, unlike the lip gloss.

These little packages would make great gifts for younger girls or friends that like makeup with bold neon colors. The collection hit stores on November 15 and is available at Macy's, Dillard's, Boscov's, Stage Stores, Beauty Brands and Lord & Taylor.

Holiday Trinkets Under $50

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

And so it begins! Holiday gift guide time!

Even if I don't get any of these things for Chrismukkah (or my bday in January), it's so much fun to compile all these gift guides. I find tons of cute gifts when searching online and I love imaging who each one would be perfect for. However, I do try to be price conscious and most websites do have an under $50 or under $100 section, which makes it super easy. Not to mention all the holiday gift sets, where you can get a really good value and try out a bunch of different products.

Happy shopping!

Fall Nail Colors

Monday, November 10, 2014

One of the easiest way to incorporate fall and winter colors is on your nails! I love when it's time to start wearing deep reds and metallics, it's just very festive and matches all the dark colors in my wardrobe. Here are some of my favorites!

Cozy Weekend Outfit

Saturday, November 8, 2014

As much as I've always loved my favorite pairs of jeans, I've been reaching for comfortable leggings lately. There are so many more styles than there ever have been -- leather, paneled, shiny, etc. Now that it's cold out, I've been pairing leggings with comfy sweaters, vests and boots. It makes for an easy, comfortable outfit for hanging out on the weekend. I also reach for neutrals, like grays, browns, white and black so I make sure to have a pop of color on my nails and lips.

Happy weekend!

Clinique Free Gift at Nordstrom

Friday, November 7, 2014

I stopped over at Nordstrom the other day to get some more of their tinted moisturizer that I love. I saw that they were having a free gift offer with a $32 purchase and I couldn't resist. The gift had so many products that I was planning to buy or refill soon so it was kind of perfect.

The gift includes the following:

A cute cosmetic bag

I'm a big fan of the mascara and moisturizers and I'm looking forward to trying all the other products! Clinique is an oldie but a goodie.

Friday Reads

1. I hope most of you watch Scandal and if you do, you'll appreciate this list of the best Olivia Pope outfits.

2. So excited for The Newsroom to finally come back! Sadly it's the last season.

3. I'm pretty much sick of everything pumpkin but here are a few fun products

4. I'm totally addicted to this podcast about a journalist trying to figure out a murder conviction from 1999.

5. Making desserts is about the only thing I can cook. These cookies are next on the list (see above picture).

Happy Friday!

1. Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea - I'm already in the holiday spirit. This tea is just the right amount of sweet and sugary.

2. Bare Minerals concealer in bisque - I hadn't tried a powder concealer until this and I have to say I am amazed with how well it covers up blemishes. Plus, it literally lasts all day.

3. Sonia Kashuk tinted lip balm - This is so smooth and provides just a bit of color. I'm really want to try some other Sonia Kashuk products too.

4. Chobani Flips - I've been loving this pineapple yogurt and macadamia and granola combo. A little more interesting than your standard greek yogurt.

Happy hump day!

I'm going to see Ina Garten tonight at BSO -- so excited!!

Splurge vs. Save: Emerson Fry Turtleneck Sweater

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

Everyone loves a classic chunky knit for the cold weather. But no matter how classic a piece is, you don't have to pay and arm and a leg for it. This Emerson Fry gray turtleneck sweater is gorgeous, no doubt, but is the cost of a designer handbag at $378. This very similar one from JCrew is a fraction of the price at $98 and will probably get marked down some time within the next few weeks. I'd love this sweater with some leather leggings and black leather boots.

Coats Under $300

Saturday, November 1, 2014

Last night was the first night I took out my winter coat! I don't know if I'm happy or sad about this. I love my coats but I was still enjoying being able to go out without one. I have two coats I really like, a camel wrap coat from Brooks Brothers and a basic black one from Banana Republic. However, I'm always looking for another interesting one to add to my closet. Here are a few of the ones that caught my eye -- all are under $300. (The ones from Banana are 30% off currently.)

Happy weekend!

Bobbi Brown Holiday Collection 2014

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

What can I say I'm a sucker for holiday collections and cute packaging. The Bobbi Brown 2014 holiday collection caught my eye immediately with the tortoise packaging and nude shimmery colors. This will definitely be one of the things I ask for as a holiday or birthday gift. I've heard great things about Bobbi Brown makeup for years but still have never bought any!
