Florida Recap

Friday, March 29, 2013

Just got back from a fabulous vacation in Delray Beach, Florida with my bf. Being on vacation I finally had some time to do outfit posts, yay! We had an awesome time at the beach, in downtown Delray, golfing, and visiting the great Jewish delis of Boca Raton. Plus I got an awesome Lilly Pulitzer skirt (pictured above) on sale and escaped without too many bad sunburns!

Hope everyone has had a great week!

A Dress for Every Occasion

Monday, March 18, 2013

Every girl needs a variety of good, solid dresses in her closet for any occasion that could come up. Over the years I've gathered a good variety of dresses for special occasions, milestones, parties or any other random excuse to dress up. Max Studio is a company that makes any and every style dress for whatever occasion is is next on your calendar. They offer a wide variety of LBD's but also feature styles in neon colors, patterns and a range of fabrics for all seasons. Check out my favorites from Max Studio:

I personally love that turtleneck black dress since we are still stuck with winter weather here in Massachusetts. I picture it with black or gray tights and suede boots for a classy winter look.

Happy Monday everyone!

Friday Five

Friday, March 15, 2013

I spent part of the week in Atlanta for a business trip so I can't believe it's already Friday! I'm excited because my vacation to Florida is coming up fast and things at work have really picked up. Hopefully we've seen the last of the snow and will start to see real spring weather soon. I'm looking forward to a nice dinner with my boyfriend tonight and starting to pack for my trip. Here are five things I love this week:

This is the best lip balm ever! I just discovered it this week, it's great for travel as well because it's easy to throw in a carry-on bag.

GroopDealz is one of my new favorite sites, they have all of the trendy jewelry and fashions, but for super-low prices. I got this necklace for $3.99!

Love this monthly wallpaper download from Ashley Brooke Designs.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of Sally Hansen, it's just as good as Essie or OPI. I love this color and immediately thought of Florida when I painted my nails!

Loved Catherine's dress on the finale of The Bachelor! The gold looked great with her skin tone. So happy for her and Sean....I hope they last though!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thursday, March 14, 2013

I've been going on a few weekend trips lately and I have a few more coming up so I've been trying to master the art of packing light, yet effectively. Interview with The Plaid Princess

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

One of the blogs I've been following since I started blogging has been The Plaid Princess, written by Amanda from Georgia. Her posts are always laced with a preppy vibe, covering the prepster obsessions such as monograms, plaid, seersucker and more. Today, I'm featuring an interview with Amanda about what inspired her blog and some insight into their her shopping and fashion philosophy.

1. What inspired you to start a blog?
Well I had played with my blog back when I was a freshman starting college. I had found some blogs from searching about "what college/sorority life was going to be about". I was very shy and quiet when I started college so I was nervous and wanted some pointers. I then realized how hard it was to blog, be in school, and a sorority so let's say I quickly put my blogging dream on hold. Flash forward to a few months ago, I woke up as an alumni with way too much time on my hands so I went back to reading some of my favorite blogs that had inspired me in the beginning (SummerWind, Classy Girls Wear Pearls, and etc.) and now I'm hooked. I can't imagine not blogging and I really hope I continue to grow as a blogger!

2. How would you define your style?
My style is "soccer mom chic with a little bit of edge". Let me explain: usually I can be found wearing an over-sized t-shirt, my favorite flared jeans from American Eagle, and my super comfy Coach tennis shoes. I know sounds terrible but, I choose comfort on an everyday basis over fashion. I would say I'm drawn to the more "preppy or conservative" way of dress but, I love throwing in something edgy and out of the box. I absolutely do not want to be cookie cutter.

3. Where is your favorite place to shop in the Atlanta area?
I'm going to sound like a shopaholic for this one:
- Boutiques- My number one place is Mint Julep in Buckhead, it is the Lilly Pulitzer signature shop and is absolutely to die for! Other shops would be Fab'rik, Swank Women's Clothing, Tootsies, and C. Wonder.
- Malls- I normal stick to Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza.
- Outlets & consignment shops- Atlanta has some of the best consignment shops I have ever been in. I'm talking vintage Chanel and Tory Burch everywhere. Here are those Tanger Outlets at Locust Grove, Psycho Sisters Consignment Boutique, Labels Resale Boutique, Alexis Suitcase, and downtown has the best Ross, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and of course - - Goodwill Buckhead (always has a TON of Lilly!)

4. What's your favorite thing in your closet?
My favorite thing in my closet is not a piece of clothing but, a quilt. The quilt my grandmother gave to my mom and then my mom gave to me when my boyfriend and I moved in together. We used the quilt for almost a year straight but, it is delicate so now it sits in the top of our closet. I'm waiting till we get our very own place with no roommates to feature it somewhere. It's beautiful!

5. Would you rather splurge on one big item or buy a bunch of smaller things?
I'm the type of girl who wants to buy a lot of little things for herself but, never ends up doing it and just saves the money. I'm going to start treating myself to a little item every now and then but, saving for bigger things and for the future is all I'm doing right now. I think you can get a better deal and a more treasured item if you wait and save up for something special.

6. What's your dream vacation spot?
My absolute dream is to go around Europe- Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, France, Italy, just all over!

7. What's the one thing you can't leave home without?
My cell phone is the one item that is absolutely always with me. If you can't get ahold of me then call the police because my phone is literally glued to my hand!

8. Do you have any makeup or beauty secrets?
People ask me all the time how I have such clear skin and soft hair and here is my secret… If you don't *have* to wash your hair or put on makeup don't! I know it sounds simple but, it totally works. Don't over wash and over product your natural beautiful self! Some days I feel my prettiest with my hair up in a ponytail and I'll I've done to my face is wash it and put Aveeno lotion on.

9. Who's your fashion icon(s)?
I have a few, first would be Leighton Meester in her role as Blair on Gossip Girl, Kate Middleton as always (she makes me want to dye my hair dark so bad!), Sarah Vickers from Classy Girls Wear Pearls, Sarah Jessica Parker, and of course Jackie O.

10. Name one thing on your wish list right now.
I have a long list because I'm about to go out and do some spring shopping! A really cute spring maxi skirt or dress, neutral wedges that aren't super high, colored skinny jeans, nude ballet flats, a new purse, and a new iPhone cover!

Check out The Plaid Princess blog and follow Amanda on Twitter and Instagram.

March Birchbox Goodies

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Another month, another Birchbox. Here's what I got in my monthly box of surprises!

Make Eyeshadow - I got this in a color called "cement" which I think will make a nice smoky eye

Make Face Primer - This could be good to put on before makeup

Nick Chavez Color-Saver shampoo - I'll definitely be packing this for my upcoming trips!

Whish Shaving Cream - This came in an awesome blueberry scent

Madewell nail file - A cute freebie that I'll be keeping in my purse

Hope everyone is having a great week, I'm flying out to Atlanta this morning for a business trip, excited to be in a warm climate!

Get the Look: Eva Longoria

Monday, March 11, 2013

I have a pair of orange skinnies from last season and keep trying to find ways to wear them. While I appreciate color blocking, I usually gravitate toward more neutral color combos. I thought Eva totally nailed this look with orange skinnies, a basic white tee and a tan scarf. It's just so classic with a great pop of color, plus it makes a great travel outfit.

Get the Look:

Splended slim fit shirt, $98 / AG skinny jeans, $265 / American Eagle Outfitters Flip Flops / Topshop bag / BCBG sunglasses / Patagonia Scarf

What's your favorite way to style bold colored jeans?

Friday Five

Friday, March 8, 2013

It felt like a long 5 day week with business travel last week and coming up next week. I've been trying to finish up things at work not only because of my upcoming travel but also because I'm taking a long-awaited vacation to Florida at the end of the month. I'm excited to go out for my friend's birthday this weekend and to watch the Celtics/Thunder game on Sunday. Hopefully the weather cooperates! Here are five things I love this week:

Stassi's statement necklaces on Vanderpump Rules

Got this on major sale and already wore it to an event this week! Definitely a classic staple.

Found this at Marshall's for $2.99 - never even seen the combo pack before! (contains Awake, Calm, China Green Earl Gray, Chai, Passion, Decaf Chai, Wild Sweet Orange, Lotus and Zen!)

If you've never frothed your own milk at home, you are seriously missing out. It's the perfect compliment for coffee, tea or hot chocolate and super easy - only requires warmed up milk and a few pumps in the canister. (Gotta give all the credit to my bf's mom who introduced us to this amazing kitchen must-have.)

Excited for my Hello Fab geo necklace to come in the mail! First saw this style on Baublebar but Hello Fab had a sale!
[Geo necklace]

Happy Friday!

Spring Lilac

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Spring is almost here! I kept seeing this lilac ModCloth bag (which is sold out unfortunately!) on Pinterest and started to fall in love with the color. It reminds me of spring flowers and it's pretty much a shade that is flattering on everyone. Not to mention, so many of the designers and stores are featuring it in their spring collections. Here are some of my favorite lilac items: (PS: the heels and ring are both on sale!)

Interview with Sense & Sequins

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

One of my favorite blogs lately has been Sense & Sequins, written by two sisters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Their posts are spot on with trends and they always incorporate a great mix of discount and designer, along with some of their local fashion favorites. Today, I'm featuring an interview with Holly and Casey about what inspired their blog and some insight into their fashion philosophies.

1. What inspired you to start a blog?

Holly got really into reading blogs after she finished college. Fashion, cooking, DIY, you name is she would send it to me to read. I became hooked. She had mentioned to me several times that she wanted to create her own blog and she wanted me to do it with her. Finally after I graduated college I decided that I needed a creative outlet and the blog would be perfect for that. Friends and family were always coming up to us asking where we got our clothes and asking us for help with styling for special occasions and dates. It just seemed like a perfect fit for us.

2. How would you define your style?

Holly and I both tend to lean towards more classic and clean, but we will both throw you for a loop with a crazy pick every once in a while.

3. Where is your favorite place to shop in the Dallas/Fort Worth area?

Fort Worth – BeeHive on Camp Bowie
Dallas – Milk & Honey on Henderson
Midcities – The Pink Hanger in Colleyville

4. What's your favorite thing in your closet?

Holly – Fendi Peek-a-boo bag and Alexander Wang Emile Satchel
Casey – Vintage Louis Vuitton side bag

5. Would you rather splurge on one big item or buy a bunch of smaller things?

We both rather splurge on a couple big items a year, but we definitely buy a bunch of smaller things on a more consistent basis.

6. What's your dream vacation spot?

Holly – Phuket Thailand
Casey - Fiji or St. Barts

7. What's the one thing you can't leave home without?

Holly - Mascara on
Casey – My planner

8. Do you have any makeup or beauty secrets?

Holly – Blow-dry your eyelash curler for a better curl and It’s a 10 products are amazing!
Casey – Bobbie Brown shimmer brick on your cheekbones to make them pop

9. Who's your fashion icon(s)?

Holly – Gwenth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston

A Line Mini Skirts

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

I bought a black BCBG A line stretch mini skirt about two years ago, but didn't start wearing it regularly until this year when it became trendy. Now I wear that skirt at least once a week to work and even out on weekends sometimes. It hits at a flattering part of my waist and works with tops tucked or untucked. Every girl should have a skirt like this at any length, they are universally flattering and can work with any season. Here are a few of my recent favorites:

A Line Mini Skirts

Nanette Lepore skirt / Milly skirt / Nanette Lepore skirt / Club Monaco colorful skirt / Club Monaco skirt / BCBG Max Azria

What's your favorite way to wear an A line skirt?

Spring Trenchcoats

Monday, March 4, 2013

It was in the mid-40's and sunny with the snow melting this weekend so I started thinking about spring clothes and lighter jackets. I'm going to bust out my classic black trenchcoat soon, but there are so many other styles I'd love to add to my closet, especially the leather sleeved trend that's been everywhere recently. Here are some of my favorite styles for the spring:

Spring Trenchcoats

DKNY double breasted trench coat / Rebecca Minkoff trench coat / Club Monaco double breasted coat / Maison Scotch double breasted coat / Banana Republic belted coat

What's your favorite way to wear a trenchcoat?
