Recent Beauty Buys

Monday, December 23, 2013

For some reason I've been very into makeup lately. Normally, I am just a bronzer, blush and mascara kind of girl but I've been wanting to step outside of that comfort zone and try some new products. I hit up Ulta the other day and walked around and tested a lot of products. Here is what I came home with:

Stila: The Natural Palette -- this one caught my eye because of the neutral pinks and golds. Plus at $20, it's a great deal and easy to travel with.

Clinique Quickliner in Intense Amethyst -- I have never really used eyeliner and realized quickly that black is way too intense for me. I was drawn to this purple shade since my eyes are blue and I thought it could be a great versatile color to wear.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion -- I had this years ago and needed to upgrade my face lotion so at $14 (for the smaller size) this was a great choice.

And here are some things on my new wish list:

Benefit Lolli-Tint -- I had heard about these Benefit tints and recently saw this shade in Lo Bosworth's makeup tutorial. It looks like a great and easy cheek tint that you can put on without a ton of makeup.

Naked 3 Palette from Urban Decay -- I know everyone in the blogosphere is talking about these palettes but Naked 3 looks amazing and I feel like the rosy tones would really suit me. Someone buy this for me!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and new year!

Whitefish, Montana Here I Come! (and some Chrismukkah gifts)

Sunday, December 22, 2013

I'm off to Whitefish, Montana until 2014 and couldn't be more excited for some skiing, relaxing and drinking hot chocolate. For those of you who watch The Bachelor, they went to Whitefish during Sean's season and had an outdoor concert and went up the mountain, etc. Whitefish is on Big Mountain (yes, that is the name) and is very close to the Canadian border.

Before I go, I thought I'd share a few things I got for Chrismukkah (since we did our gift exchange before leaving for Montana):

I got this Anthropologie sweater tunic -- it's the most comfortable thing ever and looks great with leggings and boots. Perfect for Montana as well!

I had been wanting this Mac lip gloss set for a while and was glad my bf got it before it was sold out!! Mac lip gloss...enough said!

I've been in love with Yankee Candles lately, especially the holiday scents, so I was excited to get two new ones to burn this winter. I got Christmas Cookie and Red Apple Wreath.

Hope everyone has a great holiday and wonderful new year!

Lilly Pulitzer Wish List

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

All this snow has got me thinking about my upcoming trip to Cancun in February. Lilly Pulitzer is one of my all time favorite brands and while waiting out the snowstorm, I found myself browsing the website. The number one thing on my list is the Lilly travel pants, which look super comfortable and perfect for travel.

Lilly Pulitzer Wish List

You can download iPad, iPhone and computer wallpaper on Lilly's blog.

I also scored this Lilly iPad case at Marshall's recently for only $13! Definitely check your local TJ Maxx and Marshall's, while I was there I also saw a Lilly iPad stand and a koozie.

Happy hump day!

Holiday Dinner Outfit

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

I feel like a lot of people stress over what they are going to wear for a holiday dinner but it's actually very easy to look festive and stylish without trying too hard. Let's be real, if you're eating Christmas ham and drinking egg nog all night, you're not going to be sitting around in a tight dress and heels. I tend to go for comfort, so this stretchy sequin skirt completely caught my attention. Since it's black it can be paired with any color and in this case, I thought the burgundy would be great for xmas. A simple top and skirt can then be paired with some gold accessories and a cute bag…it's as easy as that!

Monday, December 16, 2013

I can't believe I'm leaving for Montana in a little over a week! I still have to pick up a few things like some gloves and long johns for my trip, but overall I have most of my stuff ready to go. I'm going to be spending most of my time either skiing or lounging at the house so here are my suggestions for anyone who is going on a ski trip:

2013 Last Minute Gift Guide

This post originally appeared on Private School Prepster but I figured I'd share it on Pretty Pieces as well for those of you who still have some holiday shopping to do. The best part about waiting is that you may get your item on sale -- if you're ready to brave the crowds, that is! A few of these items could make great stocking stuffers or little token gifts for co-workers. Happy Holidays and good luck with the shopping!

Recent Whereabouts

Friday, December 13, 2013

I've been all over the map lately with business travel, holiday events and get-togethers. I've been slacking a bit on the blogging so I figured I would post a bunch of my Instagrams to update you all on my activities over the past few weeks.

Dress (BCBG, on sale!), Necklace (GroopDealz), Clutch (Gigi NY)
We got a chance to go see the Nutcracker in Boston...the last time I'd seen the show I was probably in elementary school!

Eli Young Band came to House of Blues in Boston and my bf won us free tickets!

After OU's amazing last second win over OSU -- at our favorite bar, McGreevy's!

A very festive Xmas tree at the Fairmont in Newport Beach, California, where I had a work event.

Hope everyone has a great weekend - to those of you in the Northeast, stay warm during the snow storm tomorrow!

Monday, December 9, 2013

There's always random people on your gift list that you have no idea what to buy. What I've always had success with is a sweet treat. You can't go wrong with something sweet, chocolatey or warm. But instead of just picking up a random box of chocolates or giving a gift card, there are some really cute gift ideas that come in nice packages and will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Here are some sweet treat suggestions:

Chrismukkah List 2013

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

I'm Jewish so technically I only celebrate Hanukkah but my boyfriend and many of my friends celebrate Christmas. As a result, I've kind of combined both of the holidays into what The OC called "Chrismukkah." My family and I have been celebrating Hanukkah the last few nights and I've gotten a few little gifts including the Gigi NY clutch I had been wanting forever. However, I still have a few things on my list so I thought I'd share some of the ideas I came up with:

Festive Holiday Drinks

Friday, November 22, 2013

I'm not a cook so my family has designated me as the bartender of the group. This year I've been searching for the perfect cocktail to make on Thanksgiving/Hanukkah and Christmas. I'm a fan of fruity cocktails, anything with chocolate and frozen mixed drinks. Here are some of the drink recipes on my list - all of these can easily be made with or without alcohol:

Friday Five

It felt like a long week this week since I had a bunch of appointments and a conference yesterday. I'm looking forward to the Oklahoma game this weekend and to see the new Hunger Games movie tonight. It's going to be cold so I'm busting out the sweatpants and hot chocolate and bracing myself for another nerve-wracking Patriots game on Sunday night against the Broncos. Now, I leave you with my Friday Five:

1. Great gifts at TJ Maxx
Nars gift sets

Essie colors

2. Trader Joe's cookie butter - if you haven't tried this, it's the new Nutella, go out and get some

3. A great list of the best chick flicks

4. Definitely making this drink at Thanksgiving - apple cider sangria

5. The Lilly Pulitzer gift guide - some really cute stuff here

Have a great weekend!

Trend Report: Statement Earrings Under $100

Trend Report: Statement Earrings Under $100

TOP ROW:

MIDDLE ROW:

BOTTOM ROW:

First came the big statement necklaces so naturally now we are seeing a lot of statement earrings. I wear large studs on a daily basis but lately I love statement earrings for a night out or to give a pop of color or sparkle to a neutral outfit. It's challenging to find big earrings that don't pull on your ears so inexpensive ones can work pretty well. These are some of my recommendations under $100.

Where have you found some good statement earrings?

Recent Anthropologie Favorites

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Anthropologie

I hadn't gone into Anthropologie in forever and the other week I finally waltzed back in….and ended up finding a whole bunch of things I loved. Aside from the many holiday gifts, such as mugs, lotion, jewelry and candles, they had some really cute winter things like sweaters and tunics. I didn't end up buying anything yet but I just love the experience of walking through the store and exploring.

Have you found anything good at Anthro recently?

Beauty Bargain: NYX Butter Gloss

Friday, November 8, 2013

So I wanted to do a quick post to share a new beauty find that I just discovered. It's called NYX butter gloss. It's a creamy, smooth lip gloss that comes in a bunch of shades. I've never tried anything from NYX before but I had heard about it from some other bloggers and a friend of mine who loves it. I finally got around to picking one up - I got the creme brulee shade, which is kind of a coffee colored neutral - and I'm in love. It cost $5 for one or $10 for a 3-pack and honestly, now I'm wishing I got the 3-pack because I'm eager to try some more colors. You can find these at Ulta, Target or Nordstrom.

Let me know if you try this gloss and what you think of it.
