Top 5 Weekend Wish List

Thursday, September 27, 2012

I've been back from vacation for about a week now and I already can't wait for this work week to be over. Because it's almost Friday, I thought I'd leave you with a fun wish list for the weekend inspired by my recent trip to Florida. Yes, it's been a loooong week.

Building 3 Outfits Around 1 Item

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

I just bought a neon yellow silk shirt 50% off at JCrew. I was really excited about the purchase but kind of unsure about what I could wear that color with. It's highlighter yellow and typically I don't wear something so bright. Even though neons were more of a summer color, how can you resist half off a great silk shirt? Here are three ways I'm going to style my new bright button down.

JCrew silk shirt (on sale now!)

Pants (Paige), Nail Polish (Essie, Fiesta), Booties (Amazon), Bracelet (Baublebar), Rings (Baublebar), Purse (JCrew), Sunglasses (BCBG), Necklace (Baublebar)

Skirt (JCrew), Nail Polish (Essie, Jamaica Me Crazy), Tights (Hue), Ring (Baublebar), Flats (Tory Burch), Earrings (Baublebar), Purse (Rebecca Minkoff), Lip Gloss (Lancome)

Necklace (Etsy), Ring (Poshlocket), Nail Polish (Essie, Good as Gold), Purse (Tory Burch), Boots (Tory Burch), Pants (Paige), Phone Case (Kate Spade), Earrings (Tory Burch)

Can you tell that I love Tory Burch, JCrew and Baublebar?

What would you wear with the brightest item in your closet?

Emmy's Fashion: Hits and Misses

Monday, September 24, 2012

Let's just pretend I watched the Emmy's last night instead of the Patriots game. But for real, how great were the Emmy dresses this year? The colors, fabrics and styles were bold, glittery and colorful.

Shades of yellow and orange were a trend. Some with a pop of color, some just made enough of a statement by themselves.

Julie Bowen

Leslie Mann

Padma Lakshmi

Bright blues and emerald green were also popular. A lot of glitter went a long way for these ladies.

Sofia Vergara

Zooey Deschanel

Nicole Kidman

Wine and deep burgundy are a trendy color this season and several stars worked the shade on the red carpet.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Tina Fey

Not everyone hit a home run at the Emmy's. It makes you wonder, how could they walk out the door looking like that? Sorry ladies, you either look like you're a bag lady or that you shopped the JC Penney sale rack.

Christina Hendricks

Lena Dunham

Fashion Up and Comers

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

We all know we love Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and Nicole Kidman on the red carpet. Some stars have come out of the shadows and have taken their place as fashion icons. Emma Watson came from Harry Potter and now is getting more attention for her fashion. Same with Emily Blunt. Here are my top 5 fashion up and comers:

Emma Watson

Emma Stone

Emily Blunt

Taylor Swift

Carrie Underwood

Fall Neutrals

Monday, September 17, 2012

I'm going to Florida this week for my last chance vacation for summer. But I've been seeing lots of fall stuff in stores and have been getting some ideas for what to wear. It'll be fall when I get back from my trip, so no more summer clothes after that.

I've been very into neutrals lately even though the thing do to has been brights and pops of color. You can have a great outfit if you start building from a pair of skinny pants and a basic longsleeve tee.

Top (Gap Body), Black Jeans (Paige), Bubble Necklace (Etsy), Bracelet (Etsy), Flats (Tory Burch), Nail Polish (Angora Cardi, Essie), Crossbody Bag (Kate Spade), Watch (Michael Kors), Ring (Baublebar)

What are going to be your staples for the fall?

Enjoy the last week of summer!

How to Create a Cute Workspace

Saturday, September 15, 2012

Cubeland, as I like to call my office, is boring. Nothing but gray walls, formica surfaces and file folders. But there are a few things you can do to spruce up your workspace and make it stand out among the rows and rows of cubicles. Target, HomeGoods and the Paper Store have great stuff like mugs, desk organizers, pens and paper that are much better than what you will find in your supply closet. There are also a lot of websites that sell cute and cheap desk accessories.

Mugs (Anthropologie), Pencil Cup (See Jane Work), Notepads (Kate Spade), Letter Holder (See Jane Work), Post-it's (Jonathan Adler via See Jane Work, on sale now!)

What have you done to your desk to make it look more appealing?

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Lauren Conrad's Top Looks

Monday, September 10, 2012

Lauren Conrad is still popular, even though The Hills has faded into a distant reality TV memory. (Check out the article from The Cut blog that says so.) We used to watch her fashions on The Hills and wonder, where did she get that? Now, with her two fashion lines, we see her at fashion week and various celebrity appearances. She still has the same impeccable, classic style now...minus that brief stint with pink tips in her hair... Here are a few of my favorites.

Most of the time Lauren sticks with neutrals, classic cuts and nothing too trendy.

What are your favorite Lauren Conrad looks? Do you like her fashion lines?

I recommend her Lauren Conrad Style book, it has great tips for what to wear, beauty and home.

Feeling the Fall

Sunday, September 9, 2012

Walked around Newbury Street in Boston this weekend and spotted some great fall looks. The leaves are starting to change and acorns are crunching on the ground...so I think it's time to start scouting some sweaters, sweater dresses, boots and long sleeves.

What are your favorite staples for fall? I bought the Athleta dress this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and versatility of the clothes there and how they can be worn for sports or for lounging around or going out.

Go Patriots!

Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday watching week 1 NFL football! I'm wearing my Reebok Patriots t-shirt and enjoying some gameday snacks from Trader Joe's at my house. I recommend the white bean & basil hummus and pita chips.

See my previous post about how to find cute clothes to wear for football games.

Good luck to your favorite teams! (unless they are going against the Pats)

Top 5 Peplum Styles

Friday, September 7, 2012

Peplum is the hot style of the season. This trend is pretty easy to wear. It looks good as part of a skirt, a top, a dress or with skinny jeans. Here are my top 5 peplum looks:

What do you think of peplum? Are you buying into the trend? I'm not a huge fan of ordering online, but ASOS has some great styles for pretty cheap so if you need to get the trend out of your system, you might want to give that a shot.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Football Season

Thursday, September 6, 2012

Fashionistas may shy away from wearing the so-called "guy" clothes of professional sports teams. But there are a few ways to look cute while still supporting your favorite team. I still wear my kid-sized Tom Brady jersey (the kid sizes are cheaper!) but a lot of stores have girlier options. Here are a few of my picks:

Whatever you do, please don't buy a pink jersey.

PS - Can't you tell I'm at Pats fan?

Michelle Obama's Democratic Convention Dress

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Does she look amazing or what??

The dress is by Tracy Reese and shoes by J.Crew. Her hair and makeup looked great as well.

How to Look Cute at the Gym

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

I'm athletically inclined. I love sweatshirts, sweatpants, headbands, t-shirts and sneakers. Naturally, I love Lululemon, Nike, Under Armour and So Low's. I'm still a fan of throwback high school sportswear and my brother or boyfriend's hand me down oversized sweatshirts. You can wear that stuff but there's an easy way to look cute at the gym without looking like an outdated scrub.

Always check the outlets or TJ Maxx/Marshall's for this stuff before buying it full price. I do however recommend buying a few staples from Lululemon, it's great stuff and worth the investment.
